There will be a class discussion about these following questions so students develop an idea about rules they follow on a day to day basis.
Have you ever wondered why there are so many rules in school?
How do you feel about the school rules? Do you agree or disagree with them? why?
If you were to change a rule what one would it be?
What would be the consequences for breaking your new rules?
These are the kind of questions you will explore and think about in this assignment. The class will be broken up into groups of four where each student will decide who will be what role. There is the principal, the teacher, the lunch room monitor, and the bus driver. Each role will research their position and what rules there should be in a school, the classroom, lunch room and the bus in order for everyone to be safe and happy. Each will think up four rules they feel are most important after reading the sources I've assigned to each role. For each rule, a consequence or punishment will be decided on as well for when that rule is broken. Each group will than create a poster board and write down their rules along with the consequences. Finally, the groups will take turns and present to the class the rules they have written for their imaginary school. You can also create a name for your school, if you wish.
